Rufus “Rudy” S. Johnson III is an award-winning architect and planner whose decades of experience have helped shape both the firm and many of the communities it has served. After earning his Master of City Planning degree from Georgia Tech, Rudy joined his father in the practice in 1977. In 1982, he assumed leadership of the firm and renamed it Rufus Johnson Associates of Clarksville, Inc., continuing a design legacy in Clarksville that dates back to 1937.
Over the course of his career, Rudy has worked on a wide variety of project types, including civic, K-12, higher education, correctional, athletic, and event facilities. His experience spans projects of many sizes and levels of complexity, from modest renovations and additions to major public and institutional facilities. No matter the scale, Rudy has always believed that clients deserve personal attention, thoughtful planning, and design solutions that respond to their goals in a practical and meaningful way.
Rudy is known for his hands-on approach, strong communication, and belief that successful projects grow out of true collaboration. He values listening carefully to clients, stakeholders, and end users, and he works to ensure that the design process reflects their vision rather than imposing one of its own. Today, Rudy leads the firm alongside Daniel Binkley, helping carry forward a tradition of service, quality, and thoughtful design that has defined RJA for generations.
