Firm Profile

Rufus Johnson Associates of Clarksville, Inc. (RJA) is the latest evolution in a company whose history has spanned over 71 years.

In 1937, Lacy Hibbs joined Clarence Speight to establish Speight & Hibbs. After graduating from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1950, Rufus Johnson Jr. joined the firm, which was renamed Speight, Hibbs & Johnson in 1959. A year later the group split to become Hibbs & Johnson and continued under that name until Hibbs' retirement in 1973. At that point the firm became simply Rufus Johnson and Associates. In 1977, after receiving his master degree in city planning from Georgia Tech, Rufus “Rudy” Johnson III joined his father in the family business. In 1982, when the elder Johnson retired, Rudy assumed sole responsibility for the firm and renamed the firm Rufus Johnson Associates of Clarksville, Inc.

Throughout the evolution of the firm, one thing has never changed; the devotion to providing our client with the best project possible, delivering it on time and within budget. Rather than being a Business-oriented-Business, RJA is a Design-oriented-Business; we are passionate about our profession and strive to be the best.

RJA is a full-service design firm specializing in the areas of Architecture, Planning, Interior Design and Sustainability; rather than specializing in specific building types, RJA is a team of generalist. Projects range from adaptive reuse and remodeling to designing large-scale industrial, educational, correctional, medical and civic facilities and campuses.

We take pride in our comprehensive approach to our projects. We involve not only key employees of our firm, but also engineers and consultants throughout the process. We consider all the client's aesthetic, functional and systematic needs and respect our client's opinion throughout design and construction; client satisfaction is our company's top priority.

We at Rufus Johnson Associates are dedicated to the betterment of our environment. We have a LEED ® Accredited Professional on staff and we are also an Energy Star Partner.
